Work days as busy as they are, a
lot of people find themselves occupied through lunch and not having enough time
to step away your desk for even a minute. Regardless of the desire to do this,
it’s essential to take breaks during work. Taking a quick break will help you
to rejuvenate, clear your mind, and de-stress. In this way when you are back to
your work, your mind is clear and you can emphasis on what needs to be done.
Most
out there would perceive that a longer mid-morning break makes them more
productive, or it may be better to take little breaks all through the day to
increase focus. Though it cannot be generalized however, depending upon an
individual’s nature you can try both methods and see which ones work best for
you. Irrespective of which way you take these breaks, just make sure you are
taking at least one during the day.
Yet the costly question here is “19 things that you should avoid to remain productive during the work day”. If you are
struggling to stay productive, one of the first things you need to examine the
following 19 points whether you agree or not?
- Not having a to do list, must to have is a sure shot to do list & sticking to it at the same time and not just by relying upon on your memory all the time.
- Not planning in advance, another essential is to spare some time for planning what you are going to do for the day? Avoid problems and focus on appointments. When in doubt you can simply revert to your plan to ensure that you stay productive throughout the day
- Procrastinating or postponing, try not to procrastinate on things for another day. Get them done today and feel relieved for ticking them off your to do list finally
- Not being prearranged or organized, to set yourself up for success, it is important to establish a routine in the morning and be organized. If you can maintain a routine, it will eventually become habit and you will see a significant change in how productive you are. Stop running like a headless chicken and make some room for unforeseen emergencies during the day ahead.
- Overloading, honestly unless you are a machine, whatever you plan or how many to do list you may have yet you won’t get it done all anyway right? So don’t overload yourself and have some peace and be calm to finish off few of your crucial tasks at least.
- Being drawn by distractions, try to complete your to do list one by one and not get side-tracked. Whenever you start your work day you should always start with your a tasks, which are your most important tasks. The best technique is to never do a b task before you have completed all your a tasks, and never do a c task before you have completed all your b tasks. By following this simple technique you will be working at your most revenue generating tasks at any given time. Practice the 80/20 law to recognize your utmost essential chores, which will be your a tasks. It denotes that if you have 10 tasks in your to do list today, and you only complete the 2 most important tasks, they will give you 80% of the total result.
- Spoiling out chucks of time & underestimating how long something will take. In this fashion you will eat up majority of your time in day dreaming only.
- Checking emails when you can’t action them, have you ever come across a situation like reading a sentence again & again yet unable to digest the meaning? It has happened with me many times when i opt for certain tasks half-heartedly. Similarly, never undertake any work when you are not in your best mood to perform it, for instance, checking email when you can’t action them and consequently you have to read them twice instead of just once.
- Relationship that doesn’t add value, we all understand that family, friends & relationships are essential however, refrain from investing your time in friendships those are non-reciprocal and non-supportive to you both.
- Too much multitasking, even though multitasking is an ancient art yet, too much of everything is bad, isn’t it? eventually you don’t do any of it properly.
- Not being intentional or sure enough and asking yourself why you’re doing something
- Too much clutter will lead to waste of your time to look after it
- No planning of your meal, oh god not again! This particular habit of yours consumes most of your time “choosing what to eat” so, make sure you have the right ingredients in the house to eat every day.
- Watching tv out of your habit, how many of you watch tv because you cannot even think of what to do next or nothing else to do, are fed up or lose track of time?
- Social media thoughtless scrolling or surfing of social media can soon add up during the day
- Not batching errands and work so you have to make several trips or switch between different tasks, lose your place and your focus.
- Not keeping an ongoing shopping list so you forget what you need, waste time trying to remember or have to go back to the shops again
- Loosing things by not having planned systems in place to help you locate things swiftly
- Prioritizing the wrong things, in absence of clear purpose and goal eventually you will lose the game.
I am naturally lazy and for sure
not a morning person too. I will never make any attempt to deny that. I enjoy
being lazy and while most people would argue that laziness is a bad thing; i
will always argue that it is possible to be lazy and stay productive i.e. To
get the things that need to be done as per stated timeline. The first rule of
being productive is to understand that being busy and being productive are 2 disparate
things. If success was measured by our ability to get a lot done; we would all
be millionaires. Unfortunately, that is not how success is achieved or
measured. Success is determined by your ability to get the most important tasks
completed; your ability to stay productive when there are so many less
important tasks screaming for your attention.
Personally speaking, best time to
start is to break down when you are at your peak performance every day, and
then plan your calendar and to-do list accordingly so you are using that peak
time to complete your most vital tasks.
My personal trick is to grab a
difficult task first and then do lots of easy jobs to reward myself. You feel
great once you've got a big job out of the way and that only lifts your
productivity.
Whatever is your title,
department, or industry, we are all trying to undertake more with a restricted
amount of time. The 21st century is all about maximizing productivity and
efficiency. We’ve all felt the strain of not having enough time in the day to
get everything done on our to-do list. How many times have you thought, if only
i had more time? There’s no way to increase the number of hours in your day—we’re
stuck at 24. But you can change how you manage and use that time. This is the
key to becoming more productive in the workplace. By using a combination of
technology and tried-and-true productivity hacks, you can make it feel like you
have more time in your day.
