Amazing fact is, all over the internet or search engines – it is easy to get Employers expectation from an ideal employee whereas “Employee expectations |What do employees want from an employer " is hard to find, why?
Frankly,
while searching for SEO effective keywords for my article – even Google Keyword
Planner was showing me results only for the Employers expectation frequently, failed
to understand why?
Well, who is an Employee?
Setting
aside the meaning found in dictionaries, an employee is the most dynamic, the
most valuable and the most skilled resources among all the resources of a
business. The more dynamic, valuable and skilled a resource, the greater the
attention and care it requires to function at its best.
For a
HR manager, it is crucial to understand the professional life cycle of an
employee. For an organisation, not only it is important to attract the right
talent, it is also equally important to make sure they are satisfied and remain
committed to contributing their best for
it's business.
But how would the right talent be attracted to your company? Why would they prefer your company over your competition? What would make them stick to your company in spite of lucrative offers elsewhere?
Go
down to memory lane and you may recollect that even before finishing your graduation,
you aspired to be a part of one of the most well-known and respected companies.
For some of you, it might have been wanting to work with the Indian
Multinationals, while others may have wanted to join any of the private sectors
bank, insurance or telecom companies.
Do you ever wonder what made you aspire to be part of those companies even before you actually got to know them? What was it about those companies that attracted you to them? What was it about those companies that attracted you to them? What is it that not just draws people to certain organizations but also keeps them committed once they work there?
What do employees want from an employer?
In my
experience the answer to this question is no longer just ‘money’. I have fund
few other factors that employees hold dear:
Satisfaction –
Most people would be okay with a pay cut if it means working at something that gives
them satisfaction and add value to their career.
Feedback –
(acknowledgement, Appreciation, Reward) – Regular feedback is important to
employees; even negative feedback which helps in their development-both
personal and professional! An organization must acknowledge the efforts put in
by them. In case of good performance, it must ensure that employees are
appreciated and rewarded.
Growth and Learning –
The opportunity to continuously learn something new is high on an employee’s
priority list.
Once
you understand what drives employee, you as an HR Manager have ample scope to
manage this talent by helping to boost their careers. If you thought company’s
customers are only outside it, think again! The company’s first customer is its
“Employee”
There
are also some absolute no-no’s which makes employees unhappy and dissatisfied.
They might even cause you to lose a good employee.
- No Amount of money can keep your employee motivated if she/he feels stuck in a meaningless job.
- Lack of recognition is also another no-no
- Probably nothing is as dangerous as the lack of growth and development opportunities.
- Lack of passion and zest in their leaders – A leader who lacks zest and passion for his/her work makes even the most performance-oriented employee unhappy.
- Lack of organized process and procedures
- Absence of Respect and dignity as a human being as well as a professional
- Lack of security and work-life balance
- Absence of employee-friendly HR policies and benefits
- Lack of transparency in the work environment and due to which office politics and favoritisms prevail
Conclusion
A portion of these Employee expectations may appear glaringly evident or ordinary, however, I would challenge you
to truly search inside and ensure that you're exhibiting these characteristics
consistently with your group. In the event that you will be, you ought to
experience no difficulty finding and holding (Retaining) the best Employees in

Regardless of whether the employees
feel great telling bosses what they truly expect, an employer can still move forward
